As a 1-11/16” (43mm) diameter tool, it can be run through tubing and used to inspect the condition of the casing by calculating both the tubing, the annular casing thickness and even a qualitative analysis of added annular strings. This allows for greatly reduced operating costs and eliminates the need for a work-over to pull the tubing string for evaluating the casing condition.
The working principle is based on Pulsed Eddy Current. Transmitter and receiver coils are wound together on the same iron core. When alternating driving pulses are supplied to the emitting coil, eddy currents are induced in the surrounding tubing and/or casing which in turn generates a signal in the receiving coil.
